Ali Nedaei - solo exhibition (01 July - 02 September)
Myths, throughout history up to the present, have made epics, with the taste of death and horses, have witnessed these epics in the history. What happens if we imagine Hector and Achilles in the battle of Troy without deadly weapons? You might say no more epic will be made nor a related book will be written. What you say might be correct, if you are a myth yourself. I have tried to create epics in my paintings with a taste of life and in the most pleasant way, however, I do not know how successful I have been. In my early works, I used the myths of the Book of Shahnameh by the great Iranian writer and poet, Ferdowsi, and by repeating these stories in my paintings I was pride of victories and depressed from defeats; as an example, the tragic scene of Sohrab’s slain by his own father, Rostam, based on a testimony by Rakhsh (Rostam’s horse), makes me thoroughly upset. Therefore, I decided to portray the stories in my own way. Thus, I distorted the stories and rewrote the scenario in a way that I would prefer. Then, Sohrab never dies in my works and Rostam will be punished several times. The intense interest in drawing has changed my tendency towards drawing, and for this purpose I use the tools, useful for creating lines. The selection of black canvas for these works, besides helping the colours and lines to shine, increases the attractivity and influence of the subjects. In the Silent Myths Exhibition, I am to be a messenger of life and its beauties, as I consider myself as a silent myth.
