Artwork explanation

Illustrations and paintings portray the dreams and realities of life for me; an opportunity to create and show the world that was made up of my childhood stories and myths. The fairy tales and old Iranian myths and pictures in books created this interest in me. I wanted to portray a world that, although it was not a real representation of life, it was rooted in the reality of life.

The angels who live on the planet, the springtime of humanity, the flowers and trees and the singing rocks, wear clothes and smile; love and grudge’s permanent fight, which always ends with the triumph of love.

In her works, a kind of weightlessness and ecstasy is felt, as if the characters are floating in an endless space. This, of course, has created a personal and experimental atmosphere in her designs.

Expert Opinion

Najva Erfani’s artworks show the status of "woman" in the movement between today and yesterday, a situation often portrayed in the form of mythical pattern, to reveal different aspects of women's lives from the historical dimensions and on a critical scale. An inquisitive and questionable theme, both in the title and in the context of her artworks, combine the complexity of today's woman with images made up of the mythological goddess so as to raise questions about the peak and base of the female world as an observer of today's life.

In her previous collection, “Infertile's Eve”, she had a contemporary look at the concept of life and creation that has long been considered in ancient myths; creation that originates from a female existence and does not end with human reproduction and the creation of thought, love, power and freedom will be included as well.

Now in the " Heroine" collection, the woman and her destiny are the main axis of narrative work. In ancient Middle Eastern mythology, the goddesses were worshiped and praised as highly ranked women, and determined the human and supernatural values; the valid values that now and after thousands of years, at the beginning of the third millennium, battles have been lost, or bloody or colorless, or no longer worthy.

A woman in the mythical world and in her holy manner combined power and peace with her energy and the power of nature to come from her existence. With the motive of fertility, he guaranteed peace and survival among humans. The goddess in her new collection, the woman in the Middle East today is fighting, where myths of war and peace, creation and death have come to an end. The woman in the works of this artist, in a state of confusion and wandering, sometimes turns into a semi-animal body and goes away from his human position. Today's world reduces the power of birth, creativity, thought and love, and, unlike the peace process, this time it pursues survival as a war of violence. Looking at the works of this artist reminds us: "When the creation is over, it is the beginning of the battle."
