Seifollah Samadian, born in 1954, is a cinematographer, photographer and filmmaker. Although his academic background is English language and literature, his major activities have been in the field of photography, cinematography and filmmaking.
Samadian started photographing since he was fifteen. In addition to winning several awards in photography, he has been awarded the first prize of the World Press Photo Award for Daily Life, capturing the impact of war on children’s games. Moreover, he has been participating in numerous biennales and significant artistic events throughout the world.
Over and above entering the Iran news agency, taking responsibilities in the unit of photography and establishing the bank of photographs, he started publishing the Tassvir Magazine, as its editor in chief, during 1990s.
He has been instructing photojournalism at the universities of Art, Tehran and Azad. Furthermore, Samadian is the founder and director of Tassvir Film Festival and Tassvir Film Centre, a member of the Tehran’s Art and Experience cinematic group and the co-founder of the photographer’s association of Iran. Seifollah Samadian has been cooperating with Abbas Kiarostami as the cinematographer in ABC Africa, Routes and Five Dedicated to Ozu.
