Javad Merati

Javad Merati is an Iranian stage designer and visual storyteller. He was born on 18th September 1975 in Tehran, Iran. Since 1999, Javad started his professional career at scene and costume design. At the same time, he also started acting in some movies and several university and street plays. He gained his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Design of Theatre’s Scene, in 2003.

During the last 17 years he has designed over 50 plays, media, models, videos, masks, statues, spaces, and decorative projections for theatre, cinema, television, entertainments, special events, exhibitions, interiors, architectural and other design projects. His best-known designs include Maxim Gorky's "The Lower Depths" on the stage of Tehran City Theatre's Main Hall and Dario Fo's "Accidental Death of an Anarchist" directed by "Mostafa Abdollahi". He has collaborated with notable stage directors and also teamed with a bevy of directors on their first foray into theatre. Javad Merati started teaching "scenic design" at "Sepand Honar Art Institute" and "Parin Hall Theatre" in Tehran since 2012. He also ran and led workshops and taught "model making" at "Naghsh-e Jahan Institute of Arts and Culture".

As creative art director, Javad provides a complete vision for every aspect of performing arts and the visual experiences from concept and design to creative development and execution.
