Jafar Panahi

Jafar Panahi, screenwriter, film director, producer and photographer, who is known as one of the most important filmmakers in the post-revolution Iranian cinema, was born in the city of Mianeh, 1960.

He, who has a worldwide reputation, began filming with short film making, and later, began his professional career by working as an assistant director for fellow Iranian filmmaker Abbas Kiarostami.

Jafar Panahi has won the world's most prestigious film festival awards, for his filmmaking, from his first film, The White Balloon (Badkonak-e sefid) to his latest film, Three Faces (Seh Rokh). During his career, to the present, he has won several awards such as the Caméra d'Or at the 1995 Cannes film festival for The White Ballon, the Golden Lion at the Venice film festival for The Circle, Golden Bear at Cannes film festival for Taxi and the Palme d'Or at the 2018 Cannes film festival for the best screenplay for Three Faces. The White Ballon, The Mirror, The Circle, Crimson Gold, Offside, This Is Not a Film, Closed Curtain, Taxi and Three Faces are amongst his feature films.
