Hamid Jebeli

Hamid Jebeli

Hamid Jebeli, as an Iranian stage and film actor, director and screenwriter, was born in 1958, in Tehran. In fact, he is more interested in what he does rather than useless comments. Gossips and vain comments will result in distraction, which makes the one to believe something that might not be real and gradually accept the illusion of being an important person. Indeed, Jebeli is not interested in working in such a situation, which he believes would make working difficult.

Jebeli has begun his career at the Institute of Intellectual Development of Children and Young Adults in 1972, and in 1978 he started acting on stage. He entered the television in the early 1980s by playing role in Mahalleye Boro Bia TV Series, as an actor

His acting is always spectacular, considering his many different roles, in a wide range of movies of varied genres such as Frosty Roads, Tohfeha, Digeh Che Khabar, Del Shodegan, The Sunny Man, White Dream and Pastry Girl. He is also the voice actor of Iranian famous puppet character, Kolah Ghermezi. His voice has been indelible on some of the famous Iranian puppet characters such as Kolah Ghermezi and Kopol (in the Bright Mice, Big City animation), which gave the audiences an incredible impression on these puppets.

Regarding acting in the genre of comedy, Jebeli explains: “a comedian is never considered as a great actor or actress, which is the same throughout the world and not many comedians are getting awarded. Audiences think if a movie is comic, so it should be superficial and pointless, though, the most serious dialogs have been heard from a character like Charlie Chaplin. They have always been considered as comedy and funny, although the Great Dictator, in my opinion, has been the most political movie ever made.”

Hamid Jebeli, as the prominent comedian-actor in the Iranian Cinema, has written, directed, and starred in the drama, known as his second and the best-created movie, entitled White Dream. White Dream is a story of a romantic and naïve young boy seeking a dream love, which drags him to madness in his social life. He rejects the true love of a girl called Masoumeh, which perhaps because of being accessible and much tangible he does not realize.

Jebeli has carefully chosen the character of Reza as the leading role, and placed him in a bounded society containing a shop, a tiny room, and a small cemetery. He endeavoured to create a unique character for the leading role and the professional play by Reza in various situations from the state of the comic to the sarcastic dialogs has shown his success in achieving his goal. Acting as Reza is one of his best professional acts in his career. He proves that his success in the movie Son of Mary was not achieved by accident.

Hamid Jebeli has also been active in drawing, painting, and sculpture for many years, although for some untold reasons he has never showcased his works of art.

Iranian Photography Comes to London for the First Time

‘Photography is the mother of cinema.’ said the late Iranian film director Abbas Kiarostami once.
