Elmira Shokrpour - solo exhibition (11 January - 16 January)
Elmira Shokrpour is a Painter and Writer from Iran whose primary works is centred on feminism and the definition of feminine power. As an artist that was born and not made, she has been playing with the pencil and making art works, drawing and painting at an early age. The inherent creative potential in her got developed and matured in adulthood, no wonder she is both a painter and a writer. In the exhibited works, she took various roles of women character of different ages which is expressed in an unconventional and intuitive manner to make socio-cultural commentaries. She combined realistic figures with the natural environment of land trees and forest to make notable visual statements. The theme of the exhibition, “JOUISSANCE” is reflected in her works, showing enjoyment and pleasure, while in some instances you witness pain and pleasure together. Elmira style of expression which is surrealism has different genre of painting, moving from realism to surrealism. The realistic figures have great anatomical details and well-articulated to give emotional and psychological feelings of happiness, joy and otherwise, a sort of mixed feelings. The colour effects of her works are cool and calm without any violence or riot. As a surrealist, her paintings are not restricted to any time or space and as such, the conventionality in painting techniques might be absent. She uses oils and acrylics to express her feelings and artistic vision. Elmira’s paintings became more international in 2013, when she won the first prize of International awards of ANIMA MUNDI Art Festival, Vilnius, Lithuania. Where and when, and to whom does jouissance happen? Me! Jouissance is the title of a painting exhibition by Elmira Shokrpour which will be held on Friday 11th January 2018 at CAMA gallery Tehran. In this exhibition, 17 artworks in different dimensions, from 100 x 100 cm to 120 x 240 cm will be showcased, and the entire collection has been created in 2018.
