Pegah Lari

Pegah Lari

She lives in Tehran, the capital of Iran. She has a Bachelor Degree in Painting from the University of Art and Architecture and a Master Degree in Painting from the Soore University.

She was participated in Tehran Biennale, 2002. After her participation in the Tehran’s Biennale, she started painting as her main profession.

She likes to improve the pop style aspects in her paintings. So, she decided to use a new form of calligraphy.

She used Naskhi with its same form in the books and the brightness and varied colours around the elements and figures. This type of calligraphy is familiar for everyone, who knows Persian and Arabic. She enjoys using Iranian pop style at her works.

The figures in her paintings are often the characters of Qajar era. Qajar ruled from 1176 to 1304 A.H.S in Iran. The figures are often princes and the women of the harem. It can be said that a great transformation happened in the art of Iran during the Qajar era and many things changed in art, Including the Iranian miniature that helped the Qajar figures to be painted more with the oil colour. The special colours, like red, was the original colour in more paintings. It was during this period that the eternal life was formed independently.

She decided to create an unusual atmosphere using unusual objects such as sunglasses or bizarre creatures like unicorn, beside these figures. Perhaps that's a sort of the contemporary world. All people, in all countries, carry things of the past. In the modern world, everyone has the attachments to culture of the past that creates the current time. In some cases, the Qajar figures are replaced by puppets. These dolls are an allegory of the modern human. A Part of the life of the modern human has tied up with the modern world. Human tries to keep the identity by linking to the previous life. Human is confused between the dream and the reality of the contemporary life. She likes to show this feeling to the audience by linking the different worlds. She tries to show that the past, the present, the future and the dream, all together, create an unreal world full of joy and colours. The modern human must think and ultimately make a choice between fact and fiction.
